Offered simultaneously with the teachers’ workshop, students will learn about diverse French speaking countries by participating in an engaging day of educational service and creativity.
Make handmade books with our morning Key-note speaker, Lucie Vaikinnou-Brinson, founder of SOW and Associate Professor of French & Francophone Literatures in the Department of Foreign Languages at Kennesaw State University.
Seeds of Knowledge’s (SOW) mission is to support the educational needs of disadvantaged school children in rural and urban Africa. SOW’s mission is to partner with parents, teachers and local school officials to provide children with basic school supplies, textbooks, supplementary reading materials; provide instructional support materials to teachers; build reading centers and implement “bookmobiles”.
Your attendance and participation means you’ll be using your French skills to create a direct link between you and French speakers in West Africa.
Students will spend the morning learning about SOW’s project and then making handmade books that will travel across the globe to be read by students in Benin.
To find out more about SOW, please visit their website or find them on Facebook
Afternoon ateliers, divided by level, will allow students to show their savoir-faire to create a skit or work of art around 10 French words.
This collaborative project entitled Dis-moi, dix
mots is aimed at highlighting the French language’s far reaching influence and wide-spread popularity with the integration of these 10 words into many different languages.
The Dis-moi dix mots initiative is an annual pedagogical initiative by the French gouvernment in partnership with Belgium, Switzerland, Quebec and the International Francophonie Organization.
Come (re)discover these dix mots and unleash your creative juices!
