Proclamation

Le 18 mars, l'élu du district 2 d'Atlanta, Kwanza Hall, a présenté une proclamation en l'honneur du festival Francophonie d'Atlanta. Cette proclamation souligne l'apport culturel et économique de la communauté francophone à la ville d'Atlanta.

Le Consul général de Suisse à Atlanta, Claudio Leoncavallo et la Déléguée du Québec à Atlanta, Joane Boyer, ont accepté cette proclmation au nom du comité Francophonie d'Atlanta.

Le festival de la Francophonie d'Atlanta en est maintenant à sa quatorzième édition et est l'un des nombreux festivals qui célèbrent la Francophonie par le monde chaque année au mois de mars.

On March 18, City Councilman Kwanza Hall of District 2 presented a proclamation to the Atlanta Francophonie Festival at City Hall. The proclamation celebrates the cultural festival's role in highlighting the French language in the City of Atlanta and the many jobs and other economic benefits francophone companies contribute to the region.

Consul General of Switzerland in Atlanta Claudio Leoncavallo and Québec Delegate in Atlanta Joane Boyer accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Atlanta Francophonie Committee.

The Atlanta Francophonie Festival, now in its 14th year, is one of many international festivals that celebrate French-speakers in all their diversity every March around the world.

Pascal Lemaître animera un atelier pour les étudiants en art de Kennesaw State University.
Une session de question réponse donnera l'occasion aux étudiants de découvrir le monde de l'illustration et ses possibilités au niveau professionnel.

Pascal Lemaître est l'illustrateur de plusieurs livres pour enfants, dont A ton avis… La cigale ou la fourmi ? (Casterman, 2004), A ton avis… Le lion ou la souris ? (Casterman) – des best-sellers aux Etats-Unis – ainsi que A ton avis… Le vieil homme ou le serpent ? et Tout ce qu'il faut savoir sur les méchants (Milan Jeunesse, 2007), tous écrits par Toni et Slade Morrison.

Pascal a également illustré des livres, nouvelles et jeux pour plusieurs éditeurs français et son travail éditorial apparaît régulièrement dans les pages du New York Times, de la New York Times Book Review, et des magazines Time et Print. En France et en Belgique, il a été publié dans Libération, Le Monde, Marie-France, Notre Temps, La Libre Belgique et Le Ligueur. Les illustrations éditoriales pour enfants de Pascal ont aussi paru dans plusieurs magazines français et belges.

Workshop with Belgian Illustrator, Pascal Lemaître, March 26th

Pascal Lemaître will present a hands-on studio workshop for art students at Kennesaw State University.
A question and answer session about illustration as a profession will follow the workshop.

Pascal Lemaitre is the illustrator of several books for children, including Who's Got Game? The Ant or the Grasshopper? (Simon & Schuster, 2003), Who's Got Game? The Lion or the Mouse? (Simon & Schuster, 2003)—both New York Times bestsellers—as well as Who's Got Game? Poppy or the Snake? (Simon & Schuster, 2004), and The Book of Mean People (Hyperion, 2002), all by Toni and Slade Morrison.

Pascal has illustrated books, stories, and games for several French publishers and his editorial work regularly appears in The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, Time, Print, Nickelodeon and 3x3. In France and Belgium, his work has appeared in Liberation, Le Monde, Marie-France, Notre Temps, La Libre Belgique, Le Soir, and Le Ligueur, etc...
Pascal's editorial illustrations for children have been published in many French and Belgian magazines.

Pascal Lemaître was born in Belgium in 1967.

Pascal Lemaître will discuss his career as an internationally recognized illustrator and author by introducing his work. Successful partnerships with American novelist Toni Morrison, and author and concentration camp survivor Stéphane Hessel will also be discussed.

Incendies tells a deeply moving story of two twins who receive a pair of envelopes from their mother in her will. One is for the father they thought was dead; the other for a brother they didn't know existed, taking them on a journey to the Middle East in search of their tangled roots. They discover the tragic fate and courage of an exceptional woman. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film has won many international awards including an Academy Award nomination for best foreign language film. This movie is for a mature audience only.

There will be a welcome reception before the screening.

Some of the works of Belgium illustrator, Pascal Lemaître, will be displayed on this occasion as well as the works of the students who participated in the immersion day activities.

“Incendies”, un film québecois, le 19 mars

Lorsque le notaire Lebel (Rémy Girard) fait à Jeanne et Simon Marwan (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin, Maxim Gaudette) la lecture du testament de leur mère Nawal (Lubna Azabal), les jumeaux sont sidérés de se voir remettre deux enveloppes, l'une destinée à un père qu'ils croyaient mort et l'autre à un frère dont ils ignoraient l'existence. Jeanne voit dans cet énigmatique legs la clé du silence de Nawal, enfermée dans un mutisme inexpliqué lors des dernières semaines avant sa mort. Elle décide immédiatement de partir au Moyen-Orient exhumer le passé de cette famille dont elle ne sait presque rien … Ce film s'adresse à un public adulte uniquement.

La soirée commencera par une réception de bienvenue.

Certaines des œuvres de l'illustrateur belge, Pascal Lemaître seront exposées à cette occasion, ainsi que les productions des élèves qui auront participé à la journée d'immersion.

Immersion day | French Teachers' Workshop

French Teacher's Workshop, March 16

Join us in celebrating the French-speaking world of francophones by participating in a workshop specifically designed for middle school and high school French teachers.

Accompany your students to the Immersion Day and attend the workshop designed for teachers while they attend their own program.

Our workshop leader, Anne-Sophie Morel, is a specialist of FLE at the University of Franche-Comté in France. She will offer Middle and High School teachers a workshop on ways to integrate literature in the language classroom.

The goal of this training session is to offer fun activities to help motivate students to read French and Francophone literary texts, and to help students work on different skills (written comprehension and production, oral comprehension and expression).
The training session will also offer an opportunity for teachers to update their knowledge of French and Francophone literature and to discover new authors and texts that will enrich their teaching practice. Emphasis will be placed on multimedia resources that can be used in French literature classes.

Training Session Content:

Methods for using a literary text in a language class: How to adapt the process of text analysis and tool development to the pedagogical use of literary texts at all learning levels
Fun activities to accompany texts ("suggestion box")
Practical Application: Run-through of certain activities, especially the guided pedagogical online course "Literature and multimedia in the FLE classroom", to discover and try out websites offering resources relating to literary texts

Teachers will leave the session with the following documents:

A PowerPoint presentation of all the ideas broached during the session

A list of contemporary French and Francophone authors

A list of multimedia resources

Besides, there will be prizes for everybody!
